"My paintings are representations of musical dreams and fantasies, written in motion with color and form. They tell the stories of an exuberant and fragile collective psyche in its ecstasy, tragedy, humor and folly. Here, evocative forms take on a life of their own to create characters and a world which can best be expressed in abstraction."

I have been painting for many years and graduated with an MFA from the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan in 1991. I work in a variety of media, including painting/drawing, collage, sculpture/ceramics, photography, jewelry and graphic design. My focus is on abstract/non-representational painting with landscape and figurative influences. The latest series of abstracts, the Calligraphy Series, are "water-acrylics", where I first apply the paint in liquid form onto wet, unprimed canvas, similar to wet on wet watercolor technique, and then apply more layers, slowly building up the paint. I usually work on a series for 3-5 months, and will often let a painting rest for a while, and come back to it when the time is right.

My tastes and influences in art are eclectic. The Color Field and Abstract Expressionist movements as well as the work of Wassily Kandinsky, Marc Chagall and Henri Matisse have all been and continue to be sources of inspiration for me. Memories and the experiences of daily life are important sources for my work. I am continually exploring the relationship between color, form, emotion and music and the combined associative qualities they share in common. I feel the experience of color is both visual and tactile and can include the other senses as well. As with sound, its effect is immediate, significant and resonating.

I accept commissions large and small. If you are interested in commissioning work, commercial or fine in any media please contact me via email through this web site.
